At Sherwood School District, we know you entrust your children to us each day and we do not take that responsibility lightly. The District has worked diligently over the years to establish comprehensive safety protocols and emergency procedures in order to help keep our students and staff safe -- on a daily basis, and in the unlikely event of a disaster.
During the month of October, we will be educating our students about emergency procedures and conducting two, district-wide emergency drills in order to give our students and staff an opportunity to practice what they know. We have taken great care to make sure our conversations about this topic are age appropriate, and we want you to be aware of our drills so you can visit with your children at home, too.
On October 17, we will be participating in The Great Oregon Shakeout by practicing an earthquake drill at 10:17 a.m. As a reminder, in an earthquake drill we will practice dropping to the ground, taking cover under a desk or table and holding on until the shaking stops. At the end of the drill, our students will practice evacuating the building.
On October 23, we will be practicing lock in drills at 8:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. (depending on the campus); elementary schools will arrange special drills to ensure both morning and afternoon kindergarten classes have a chance to practice. Sherwood Police will be on-site to observe. If you are around our campuses during one of the drills, please do not be alarmed by the increased police presence.
If you are a visitor in the building during any of our drills, we need you to participate with us; please follow the directions given by our staff. If you arrive during a drill, you will not be allowed to enter and students will not be allowed to exit until the drill concludes. Please plan ahead if you need to drop off or pick up your student during the day of a drill.
