Chromebook Tips
Try these tips first before contacting the Technology Help Desk.

* Chromebook won't charge:

    - Double check that the two pieces of the power cord are
        plugged into each other tightly.

    - Make sure you're using a Sherwood School District
issued power cord - it will be a Dell brand power cord.

    - Plug the power cord into the bottom outlet on a wall
outlet.  Often times the top outlet is tied to a light
switch and when the light switch is turned off, the
power cord won't receive power needed to charge the

* Chromebook won't turn on:

    - If you didn't turn off the Chromebook by pushing the
power on/off button (top right corner on keyboard), the
Chromebook is probably on, but in sleep mode.
If you closed the cover (screen), that puts the Chromebook
into sleep mode.  Open the Chromebook, wait 15-20 seconds
and your Chromebook should turn on.  If it doesn't turn on,
push any key (ex. arrow) for three seconds - this should wake
up your Chromebook.  You may have to push the key a second
time (for three seconds) then give the Chromebook
another 15-20 seconds to wake up.

    - If your Chromebook still doesn't wake up, try pushing
the power on/off button (top right corner of keyboard),
for three seconds while pushing the power on/off button.
If the Chromebook was powered off, it will take about
15-20 seconds for the Chromebook to turn back on.
If after 20 seconds the Chromebook still hasn't turned on,                 try this process again.
* Mouse / Touchpad doesn't work:
    - Do the below steps in order.

Close all programs you have open by closing each program.
Click the "X" in the upper right corner to close all programs.
Next, click on "SIGN OUT" - usually located on the bottom right
corner.  Right click on your clock to display "SIGN OUT" then            click on it.  Wait until the Chromebook logs you out and takes            you back to the login screen where you would normally put in            your password (don't put in your password).

Click the down arrow next to your name - then click
on "REMOVE USER".  The Chromebook will ask "are you sure            you want to remove user and contents".  Click "REMOVE
USER" a second time.  This step takes you off of this
Chromebook and is part of the Chromebook reset process.
This doesn't delete your documents.  At this point you
should now be back at the original login screen (the screen
        should be bright blue).

Once you're at the original login screen, click on the bottom            left "SHUT DOWN".  Let the Chromebook shut down then                    wait... for about 3 minutes.  The Chromebook is resetting.

After 3 minutes, turn on the Chromebook (power on/off
button - upper right side of keyboard counting 1, 2, 3).  Once
the Chromebook powers back on, test the mouse/touchpad.
If the mouse/touchpad still isn't working, it likely came
disconnected inside the Chromebook.  The Sherwood School            Dist. Technology Dept. can reconnect the mouse/touchpad.
* Forgot Username, GMail or Password:
    - Username is your first name, middle initial, last initial and
the last two numbers of the year you graduate from high
school.  For various reasons, some students were given the
letter "X" to use as their middle initial.  Username is not
        case sensitive.

        Username example:     garfieldab25

    - Password is case sensitive.  It starts with a capital letter for
your first name, your student ID number and ssd (for
Sherwood School District and is lower case).

        Password example:  G123456ssd

    - GMail address:
Start with your username then add @sherwoodsd.com to it.
        GMail Example:   garfieldab25@sherwoodsd.com

** The Chromebooks have "@sherwoodsd.com" already on the
bright blue starting login screen - you just need to add your
Username when logging in on that screen. **
