tips for decoding esis

"exempt"

posted Jan 23, 2013, 5:50 PM by Lisa Baggia

If a student was proficient on a test, the assigned test corrections and extra practice for that standard should be marked "exempt" on esis. Please let me know if I missed marking this! If the student is not yet proficient, he/she is expected to complete these tasks and retake the test when confident of the material.

"extensions"

Any points earned on an "extension" are great! These are optional challenges, and are available for those who want to demonstrate an advanced level of mastery (above a B). Most of the time, students should not worry about retaking these after a test.

"Learning Targets"

"Learning Targets" are not assignments, but just a breakdown of the specific skills included within the test on a standard. These carry no weight in esis but are intended as a communication tool so that kids know which pieces of a standard they are proficient in (and which ones they will be expected to keep working on and retake when ready).
