August 20, 2021

Dear Sherwood Middle School Parents and/or Guardians,

It is with great anticipation and excitement that I write this letter to welcome each of you back as we continue on our journey together as Sherwood Middle School Archers this 2021-2022 school year. We are looking forward to welcoming students back to in person instruction daily. I hope that you had an enjoyable summer with family, friends, and loved ones and that you are as excited to have your child return to school as we are about having them.

As you prepare for the upcoming school year, you may find the following information helpful:

Important Dates:

  • Sept. 8: 6th Graders first day of school & New Student Orientation
  • Sept. 9: 6th, 7th and 8th Graders attend, (A) Day
  • Sept. 10: Picture Day
  • Sept. 16: Back to School Night, Virtually – Times to be determined

Student Schedules will be viewable beginning at 3:30pm on Monday, August 23, 2021 via StudentVUE and/or ParentVUE.  Locker assignments will also be available and can be found in the Student Information tab at the bottom of the page under Student Locker.  Please remember SCHEDULES ARE NOT FINAL UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.   Schedule balancing is still occurring and there may be changes.  Please continue to check your schedule on StudentVUE/ParentVUE as any changes, if made, show up instantly.

Orientation (Open House) at Sherwood Middle School

  • 8th grade students: August 24th, 10:00 – 2:00 p.m.; 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
  • 7th grade students: August 25th, 10:00 – 2:00 p.m.; 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

  • If you and your student cannot attend on the assigned grade level day, you may opt to attend on the above date that works for your family.

The purpose of orientation is to allow students and/or parents to pick up student schedules if needed and to locate classrooms. Use of lockers will be optional this year. If your student chooses to use a locker, this will be an opportunity to locate their locker and practice opening it.

All individuals entering the building must wear a mask at all times and will be expected to practice current social distancing guidelines. All individuals attending orientation will be asked to sign in via for contact tracing.

Entry to the SMS orientation will be through the Activities Entrance on the east side of the building.  Stations will be set up in the commons to pick up schedules if wanted, pay fees, and drop off donated supplies. Fee payments must be cash or check. Those opting to pay by credit card will need to pay fees online through ParentVue. Please note that the payment system requires payments be made from a device with a browser. Payments from a cell phone will not go through.

Face Covering: On August 11, Governor Kate Brown announced the implementation of a statewide mask requirement for all adults and children over the age of 5 in indoor public spaces. In alignment with that change, our district will be upholding this additional requirement for staff and visitors to all district buildings including buildings where students are not present, and during all hours the buildings are open (not just school hours).

Physical Distancing: While not required, the Oregon Department of Education strongly advises schools to continue the practice of physical distancing of at least 3 feet between students to the extent possible.

School Hours: The front office hours will be 7:30-3:40 daily. Student hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., except on scheduled early release days. Doors at the Main Entrance and the Activities Entrance will be open to students at 8:15 a.m.

Early Release:  The District will have one-hour Early Release days each Wednesday throughout the 2021-22 school year beginning on September 15th. Please refer to the 2021-22 District Calendar for the scheduled Early Release days. Dismissal for those days will be at 2:20  pm.

Student Pictures: School pictures will take place on Friday, September 10th. Photo packets will be distributed in class prior to picture day.
