2022 Back to School Letter to Parents

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL ARCHERS! 

We hope that you and your family have enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to the start of a new school year. SMS staff are busy getting ready for your arrival and are excited to welcome students to their classrooms. 

To help you prepare for the 2022-2023 school year, you may find the following information helpful:

IMPORTANT DATES

Sept. 1: 6th Graders first day of school & New Student Orientation

Sept. 2: 6th, 7th and 8th Graders attend, (A) Day

Sept. 9: Picture Day 

Sept. 15: Back to School Night, 6:00pm – 7:30pm

OPEN HOUSE AT SHERWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL 

All grades are welcome to attend any of the following dates: 

Aug. 17: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm 

Aug. 17: 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Aug. 18: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Aug. 19: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

The purpose of Open House is to allow students and/or parents to: pick up student schedules if needed, locate classrooms, and practice opening lockers. All students will have a locker assigned to them however the use of lockers is optional. 

Entry for Open House will be through the Activities Entrance on the east side of the building. Stations will be arranged in the commons to pick up printed schedules, purchase P.E. clothing if desired, and drop off donated supplies. Please note the purchase of P.E. clothing at Open House must be made in cash or check. Those opting to pay by credit card will need to pay online through ParentVue. The payment system requires a device with a browser and payments from the app will not go through. No elective class fee payments are required this year. 

STUDENT SCHEDULES

Student Schedules will be viewable after 9:00am on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 via StudentVUE and/or ParentVUE.  Locker assignments will also be available and can be found in the Student Information tab at the bottom of the page under “Student Locker”. SCHEDULES ARE NOT FINAL UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Please check StudentVUE/ParentVUE for any changes.

SCHOOL HOURS 

Front office hours: 7:45 am – 3:30pm

Student hours: 8:30 am – 3:20 pm (except on scheduled Early Release days) 

Doors open to students: 8:15 am (Main Entrance and Activities Entrance) 

EARLY RELEASE

Wednesdays: 2:20 pm dismissal (beginning on Sept. 14th)

The District will have one-hour Early Release days each Wednesday throughout the 2022-23 school year beginning on September 14th. Please refer to the 2022-23 District Calendar for the scheduled Early Release days. Dismissal for those days will be at 2:20 pm.

STUDENT PICTURES

Friday, September 9th: School pictures will take place throughout the day. 

Photo packets will be distributed in class prior to picture day.

FACE COVERINGS 

Face masks are not required in district buildings at this time. Please respect each family’s individual choice to wear a face covering or not.

DRESSING DOWN FOR PE

SMS PE clothing is available for purchase at Open House (cash or check please) or through the main office. If you choose not to purchase PE clothing through the school, students will need to dress in their own clothing appropriate for activity.

DEVICE PROTECTION PLAN

Please view the 2022-23 Device Protection Plan for more information and to enroll in the protection plan for your student this year. 

FOOD SERVICE INFORMATION

Please visit the Nutrition Services Webpage for nutrition information, menus and pricing. 

Meals are no longer free to all students. For those families who may qualify for free or reduced lunch benefits, it is important that you complete the Free and Reduced Meals Application online or pick up hard copies from the office. In order to be eligible for additional benefits (such as reduced fees) you MUST complete and submit the Permission to Share Form which can be found on the last page of the application. NOTE: If you completed the Free and Reduced Meals Application online, the Permission to Share Information Form still needs to be completed and returned to your student’s school or mailed to: 21920 SW Sherwood Blvd, Sherwood OR 97140. Attn: Kelly Rood. 

SHARE CENTER INFORMATION

Open Monday-Friday: 8:00 am – 3:00 pm
